Recently, I read a beautiful story about a grandmother celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary. Surrounded by friends and family, she was asked, “What is the secret of your long marriage?” “Oh, it is very simple,” she said.
A quote in George MacDonald’s book “David Elginbrod” speaks to those who second-guess why God made them the way they are and who sometimes wish they were someone else. Lady Emily muses, “I wish I were you, Margaret.” Margaret replies, “If I were you, my lady, I would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature that I could think of. For to have been thought about—born in God’s thoughts—and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest, most precious thing in all thinking.”
Fanny Crosby was a prolific hymn writer of a past generation. During her lifetime, she wrote over 8000 songs, most of which have been forgotten. Although some have endured and continue to minister to the church of today: “To God Be the Glory,” “Blessed Assurance,” and “All the Way My Savior Leads Me.”
A lady went to her local bank to withdraw some money from her account. Having received it from the teller, she proceeded to count it and then recount it. Wondering if he had made a mistake, the teller asked, “What is it, lady? Isn’t it all there?” The woman snapped back, “It just is!” I am not sure what this woman was expecting, but banks are not charities. They give us exactly what we ask for, no more and no less.
